Sword Art Online revealed new information and details for its upcoming original anime movie titled Integral Domain. The film was teased with the words “a completely new original theatrical edition is in production” back in January 2024, while its initial announcement came in November 2022.
The new film is directed by Shingo Adachi, with character designs by Yumiko Yamamoto and animation production by A-1 Pictures alongside its new internal animation label, Psyde Kick Studio. Unlike the recent Progressive films, Integral Domain will tell a completely original story set after the Alicization arc. Original series creator Reki Kawahara is providing the story concept for the project.
The film’s first confirmed cast members are the franchise’s well known main characters:
- Yoshitsugu Matsuoka as Kirito
- Haruka Tomatsu as Asuna

Reki Kawahara originally wrote the Sword Art Online series as a web novel on his website from 2002 to 2008. ASCII Media Works acquired it and began publishing it as a light novel through their Dengeki Bunko imprint from April 2009, where it is still ongoing. It received 3 TV anime seasons, titled Sword Art Online (2012), Sword Art Online II (2014) and Sword Art Online: Alicization (2018-2020). The movie Sword Art Online the Movie: Ordinal Scale was released in 2017, with the story set between the events of the second and third TV seasons. It got numerous other adaptations and spin-offs.
The franchise revealed a special GAME CLEAR visual, commemorating November 7, 2024, the day Kirito cleared the game.
A-1 Pictures and Psyde Kick Studio are also working together on this season’s GROW UP SHOW: Sunflower Circus.
