Damu Amato’s fantasy light novel Heir to a Monstermancer is officially getting a TV anime adaptation, with the main cast, staff, and a teaser visual revealed.
The series won the Grand Prize at the 2nd Drecom Media Award. The story follows Leen, a descendant of the legendary witch Ringleen who has the ability to command monsters. After saving the life of adventurer Hakura, the two embark on a journey in a world where humans and monsters coexist, taking on dangerous cases involving creatures that are rarely as simple as they first appear.
The main voice cast for the anime includes:
- Manaka Iwami as Leen
- Chiaki Kobayashi as Hakura
- Akio Otsuka as Blue
All three are reprising their roles from the promotional video released with the first light novel volume.
The adaptation is directed by Chihiro Kumano (Unnamed Memory episode director), with Satoru Sugisawa handling series composition, Akane Kasasagi designing the characters, and project No.9 (The Angel Next Door Spoils Me Rotten, Love After World Domination) handling the animation production.
Original author Damu Amato celebrated the announcement:
“Heir to a Monstermancer is getting an anime. …It’s getting an anime!? I can hardly believe it myself, but a dream I’ve been imagining since childhood, a big, big dream, has become reality, all thanks to everyone who has supported me. It’ll be a little while before it airs, but everyone involved is giving it their all. Please wait just a little longer for the new beginning of Reen and Hakura’s messy, complicated journey.”
Director Chihiro Kumano described the series as “a work with a rare and dreamlike charm,” adding that he hopes to portray both “the beauty and the cruelty of this world as a hymn to all of creation.” Original character designer Shirabii also shared congratulations, saying they look forward to seeing Leen, Hakura, and the rest of the cast come to life in animation.
The original light novels are published in English by J-Novel Club, which describes the story:
Veteran adventurer Hakura has overcome countless trials, but his latest fight with a deadly hydra nearly costs him his life. In the nick of time, he is saved by an intriguing young lady named Leen, who, to his surprise, possesses the rare ability to tame any and all monsters! Now indebted to this unscrupulous monstermancer, Hakura decides to join her in her travels, the two of them arguing and bickering every step of the way. What has drawn them together, and what adventures await this unlikely pair?
