Studio TRIGGER has officially announced its next flagship anime title, a brand-new anime project from director Hiroyuki Imaishi and screenwriter Kazuki Nakashima. This will be the duo’s fourth major collaboration. Their previous works:
- 2007: Gurren Lagann
- 2013: Kill la Kill
- 2019: Promare
No title, story details, release date, or additional staff were revealed. We recently had the opportunity to interview Nakashima, where he discussed his creative process for original anime. The veteran writer explained that he typically develops the final scene before writing the rest of the story, allowing him to shape each episode toward a defined conclusion. He also said he prefers working on original projects, while emphasizing the importance of preserving the atmosphere when adapting existing works. About TRIGGER
Studio TRIGGER was founded on August 22, 2011, by former GAINAX creators Hiroyuki Imaishi and Masahiko Otsuka. The studio quickly established itself with a distinctive high-energy animation style through projects such as Inferno Cop and Little Witch Academia, before achieving its first major television success with Kill la Kill in 2013.
Over the following decade, TRIGGER expanded its catalog with series including Space Patrol Luluco, Kiznaiver, Darling in the Franxx (co-production), SSSS.GRIDMAN, BNA: Brand New Animal, SSSS.DYNAZENON, and Gridman Universe. The studio also contributed to Star Wars: Visions.
Its international profile grew significantly with CYBERPUNK: EDGERUNNRS, the Netflix anime produced with CD PROJEKT RED, which became one of the studio’s biggest global successes and won Anime of the Year at the our 2022 yearly awards. More recent productions include Delicious in Dungeon, New Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt, The Lenticulars, and CYBERPUNK EDGERUNNRS 2, a standalone sequel currently scheduled to premiere in Fall 2026. Delicious in Dungeon Season 2 is set for October 2027, as confirmed during the same panel at Anime Expo 2026.
