The Ritsu and Arale saga continues in BanG Dream! YUME∞MITA Episode 5, and this time, the two finally get to open up to each other. After Ritsu fumbled her way through ending her stream and accidentally played Erea’s song, everyone now knows how she truly feels and that includes Arale.
Funnily enough, the classic livestream fail moment actually reached Arale. And now that she knows Ritsu’s feelings, the two finally get to talk to each other after all this time and both seem to have gained their resolve.
The question is, what happens next?
Well, this is where things get fun because there are so many directions the story can take moving forward.
While the MewType drama seems simple compared to its predecessors, MyGO!!!!! and Ave Mujica, it is by no means linear or black and white. Arale and Ritsu finally opening up to each other might lead to Arale practicing with MewType, while Ritsu could instead focus more on her own Fairy Bouquet with Viola.
However, I don’t think this is what will push Ritsu to join MewType. If she does, then it honestly wouldn’t make much sense and in turn would feel the story too rushed.
They’re both part of separate groups that are already taking their first steps toward climbing the ladder of relevancy. So I doubt Ritsu is suddenly going to change her mind and join MewType just to be with Arale. Plus, aside from Yuno, she doesn’t have interactions yet with the other members and their manager, so there’s a low chance that the story heads in that direction.
And, of course, we have to address the elephant in the room: Viola. The reason I don’t think this will be the catalyst for Ritsu joining MewType is because Viola will inevitably step in. I simply cannot imagine her allowing Ritsu to be with Arale again.
While her motives are still unclear, I already have this perception of her as an Arale hater. Even Arale mentioned in the episode that she’s scared of getting involved with Viola and honestly that’s completely valid.
All of us should be scared and hate this manipulative and self-centered Viola. She’s even more cunning and devious as more episodes come. It’s quite infuriating, and at the same time exciting because, again, it’s rare for BanG Dream! to have this kind of villain. And I will admit that I’m kind of excited to see how Viola reacts to the beginning of Arale and Ritsu’s resolution and how her true colors will shine even more. I hope she goes ballistic and crashes out or something to make her downfall even sweeter when MewType is going to be complete.
What I think will happen now moving forward is that Arale can finally practice with her current band, allowing them to take their own first steps toward stardom while Ritsu supports them from the side. Or it could go another path and maybe another party chimes in. After all, not only did Ritsu fumble ending her stream but she also doxed Arale being Erea so maybe this opens up another predicament and a whole new drama. Who knows at this point, but more importantly, I’m glad the series still has so many possible directions to explore.
