My Hero Academia creator Kohei Horikoshi is set to return to Weekly Shonen Jump with a brand-new one-shot manga titled Don’t Laugh, Shijima-san (Warawanaide yo Shijima-san). The one-shot will be published in the magazine’s combined Issue #37/38, which goes on sale in Japan on August 10.
The 61-page one-shot will feature a center color page and is described as a “boy-meets-girl horror” story. Shueisha has also released a color illustration from the upcoming manga ahead of its debut.
The new work marks Horikoshi’s first manga published in Weekly Shonen Jump since the conclusion of My Hero Academia in August 2024. The superhero series ran for ten years after debuting in 2014, becoming one of the magazine’s flagship titles with over 100 million copies in circulation worldwide. It also inspired multiple anime seasons, films, spin-offs, and games. Another new anime, a short focused on Eri, is set to release on streaming platforms on August 2.
The same issue of Weekly Shonen Jump will also celebrate the 50th anniversary of Osamu Akimoto’s KochiKame: Tokyo Beat Cops (Kochira Katsushika-ku Kameari Koen-mae Hashutsujo). As part of the commemorative feature, horror novelist Settsu, known for works including About a Certain Place in the Kinki Region and The Mouth Survey, will supervise a special KochiKame feature article. The issue will also include a special illustrated card drawn by Akimoto as a bonus.
