Cygames, Inc.’s quest for world domination continues as yet another racecourse welcomed Umamusume cosplayers to their turf. Club Hípico de Santiago hosted Chile’s first club-sanctioned Umamusume cosplay race on Friday, May 22. While many of these races have happened throughout the Americas, this was the first time that a major race track welcomed cosplay racers as part of the day’s main races. The club even covered every minute of the 50-meter race with all the vigor it shows in normal races. The winning racer, a cosplayer dressed as the trainer from the anime’s first season, was even awarded a trophy.
Since their boom in South East Asia, Umamusume cosplay races have quickly spread across the world. In Latin America, major cosplay events have taken place at Panama’s Hipódromo Presidente Remón and in Peru’s Hipódromo de Monterrico.
Cygames, Inc., the company behind the Umamusume: Pretty Derby franchise, has also established itself in the region’s horse racing scene. Earlier this year, Cygames sponsored the Gran Premio Latinoamericano in Lima, Peru. The company is also a sponsor of the Triple Corona Mexicana. Over the weekend, the Umamusume – Beginning of a New Era film premiered across Latin America.
Umamusume Details
Umamusume: Pretty Derby is a multimedia franchise centered on anthropomorphic versions of famous (mostly Japanese) racehorses. Originally released by Cygames, Inc. as a mobile game, the IP has since spawned several TV anime, OVAs, manga, games, and a theatrical film. The franchise’s latest TV anime, Umamusume: Cinderella Gray, won our Spring 2025 anime of the season.
Club Hípico de Santiago is a thoroughbred race track founded in 1870. The club hosts the Clásico El Ensayo, South America’s oldest stake race.
