The film opened in Japanese theaters on August 15, after previously being delayed from its original date due to the ongoing pandemic. It is the last part of the Heaven’s Feel trilogy. Animated by Ufotable, it adapts the third and final route of the visual novel. The 3 movies focus on Shirou’s relationship with Sakura.
The first film, Fate/stay night: Heaven’s Feel I. Presage Flower, released on October 14, 2017 in Japan. Furthermore, the second film, Fate/stay night: Heaven’s Feel II. Lost Butterfly premiered in January 2019.
The movie “Doraemon: Nobita’s New Dinosaur”, which released on August 7th and ranked 1st last week, now ranked 2nd. The live-action movie “Kyō Kara Ore Wa!!” ranked 3rd. That means it’s also the first Japanese movie to surpass 4 billion yen (roughly $37.7 million) this year. It has reportedly mobilized 3.2 million people within 31 days of its release on July 17th.
It will be interesting to see how the other films this year perform. “Violet Evergarden The Movie” by Kyoto Animation premieres in Japan on September 18. “Demon Slayer: Infinity Train” movie by Ufotable on October 16th. “Josee, the Tiger and the Fish” by Bones on December 25th, 2020, among others.
