The second season of Jujutsu Kaisen covers one of the most awaited arcs in the series – the Shibuya Incident. The arc will have 18 episodes in total, which follow the events set after episode 24 of the first season. So far, nine episodes have been released for Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2, five of which are from the Hidden Inventory Arc/Premature Death, and four from the ongoing Shibuya Incident Arc. Shota Goshozono is directing the season, which is once again animated by MAPPA.
Considering the crazy amount of spoilers that have been floating around (for both the anime and the manga) we tried to summarize what kind of emotions you’ll be experiencing by the end of the season. We tried to keep spoilers low, but as always, be warned if you’re trying to avoid them.
The Shibuya Incident Arc: The second cour of the season takes place at Shibuya. It’s October 31, 2018. Intending to seal Satoru Gojo, Mahito and Kenjaku (Pseudo-Geto) led the cursed spirits and cursed users to Shibuya. Many civilians were trapped inside when a curtain was cast, bringing jujutsu sorcerers to the area. The sorcerers were divided into groups to look into the situation. However, the normal people were told to look and call for Satoru Gojo, despite not knowing who he was.
Satoru Gojo arrives at Shibuya
With the anime still ongoing, here’s some of what you should expect from Jujutsu Kaisen’s Shibuya Incident Arc. (Also expect that this article may contain spoilers!)
From what we already see in the anime, cursed spirits Jogo, Choso, and Hanami start a fight with Satoru Gojo. Using his Limitless Technique, Gojo exorcised Hanami and crushed him. On the other hand, the main protagonist of the series, Yuji Itadori, could be seen fighting with a grasshopper curse. This scene had fans discussing the obvious dimming and ghosting in the animation; however, it was accepted by many especially since it was not the main fight or point of the Shibuya Incident Arc. In the next scenes, we see a lot of transfigured humans because of Mahito’s doing, and expect a lot more mindblowing happenings in the following episodes because of him (IYKYK). In episode 9, we see Pseudo-Geto (Kenjaku) opening the Prison Realm with a frustrated Satoru Gojo trapped in it. A condition for the Prison Realm to activate is to have a minute last inside the strongest sorcerer’s brain, and this succeeded when Gojo saw his “one and only best friend,” whom he bid goodbye to just the previous year, very much alive. Memories came flooding back to Gojo’s brain, making the cursed spirits and Kenjaku’s plan a success.
The Shibuya Incident Arc is one of the darkest arcs in the Jujutsu Kaisen series. Cursed spirits, cursed users, and evil sorcerers came to Shibuya, and many innocent individuals got involved and died in the process. With that information, expect a lot of action-packed scenes, reunions, some reminiscing, and some grieving because a LOT is going to happen in Shibuya. With Satoru Gojo trapped inside the Prison Realm, things are going to get really bad. Furthermore, you will see characters once introduced during the first cour of the second season, and for different reasons! Get ready to see everyone display their skills, cursed energy, and cursed techniques; and of course, ready your tissues! (No spoilers, Please!)
Expect Action!
Is it really Jujutsu Kaisen without the sorcery fights? From the first season, the prequel movie, and the first cour of the second season, we see different fights between different characters in different settings. Each one has gotten our attention and left us wanting for more. And we will! For the Shibuya Incident Arc, expect fights between Jujutsu sorcerers versus the cursed spirits. I think it’s safe to say that the fight between Kento Nanami and Haruta Shigemo is one fight that you should keep an eye on! You will really see just how powerful grade-1 sorcerers really are – even Nobara Kugisaki was left in awe! For the rest of the arc, there will be more thrilling clashes such as Mei Mei and Ui Ui’s fight with a Smallpox Deity, Choso versus Yuji Itadori, and Megumi Fushiguro versus an important character introduced to us during Hidden Inventory Arc. (We won’t say who, of course!)
Expect More Reunions
On October 31st at Shibuya; Gojo and Geto met (sort of) once again while the former was in the process of being trapped inside the Prison Realm. It was the first reunion we saw, but ready your hearts, minds, body, and soul because there will be more reunions – and for different reasons. There will be a father and son reunion, and one character will also see his best friend again during his last moments to guide him to do the right thing. (We know, it’s heartbreaking.)
Expect Tear-Jerking Scenes
Together with all the amazing action scenes from our favorite characters are the tear-jerking scenes (also from our favorite characters!). We can’t help but be sad at the following events, but what can we do? The best flowers are usually the ones picked first, and it’s the same for this series. Although we’ve already accepted it, we can’t help but ask ourselves, “Why? Why my favorite character?!” We don’t want to spoil anything in this article, so let us all wait for the following anime episodes to be aired.
Those are just some of what you should expect from the Shibuya Incident Arc. If you’re an anime-only, we hope you are at least a little more curious and want to know more, but nevertheless, we are as excited as you are about watching the next episodes. Of course, as concerned citizens of the Jujutsu Kaisen fandom, we’re leaving some parts out for you to still experience the thrill of learning something new. If you have read the Jujutsu Kaisen manga, then what part of the Shibuya Incident Arc are you most looking forward to?
