Made in Abyss anime revealed a new key visual for Part 1 of its theatrical film series, Awakening Mystery. The first installment is set to premiere in Japan on October 23, 2026.
It was also announced that ahead of the new film series, previous Made in Abyss recap movies and entries will receive theatrical re-screenings in Japan. This includes the compilation films Journey’s Dawn and Wandering Twilight, along with Dawn of the Deep Soul and the TV anime sequel The Golden City of the Scorching Sun.

The anime movie previously revealed a teaser visual, featuring two new characters, Tepaste and Cravagli, shown at the Tumble Tavern. The new film will serve as a direct continuation of the 2022 TV anime Made in Abyss: The Golden City of the Scorching Sun. Kinema Citrus returns as the animation studio, continuing its involvement from the previous entries in the series. The staff includes:

Made in Abyss, written and illustrated by Akihito Tsukushi, follows the descent of a girl named Riko and a robot boy named Reg into the Abyss, a massive pit filled with ancient relics and mysterious creatures. The manga is serialized on Takeshobo’s Web Comic Gamma and has over 22 million circulating copies.
A film concert titled Made in Abyss Film Concert: Deep Echoes of Resonance was held today on February 8, 2026 at Tokyo’s Nakano ZERO Grand Hall. Composer Kevin Penkin conducted a live orchestra performing the anime’s soundtrack, accompanied by anime footage on a large screen. Vocalist Ko Saito and KIHOW (MYTH & ROID), who performed the series’ theme songs, also appeared for live performances. Main cast members Miyu Tomita (Riko), Mariya Ise (Reg), and Shiori Izawa (Nanachi) were also present.
