Anime Corner News - A Year in Review

As we get ready to sail into the new year, I thought it would be nice to take a look at the things that the Anime Corner News team did in 2022. It has been a very crazy year for us. We covered countless events, live streams, conventions, and announcements; we wrote reviews, news, interviews, features, and opinion pieces, all while posting the majority of it on our social media channels.

According to a rough (but fairly close) estimate, we published around 3,580 articles in 2022. We started the year off with news about the Urusei Yatsura reboot. We continued with extensive coverage of Attack on Titan, Demon Slayer, announcements about Trapped in a Dating Sim: The World of Otome is Tough For Mobs, My Dress-Up Darling, Handyman Saito, The Angel Next Door Spoils Me Rotten and The Seven Deadly Sins. We were there to write about the Solo Leveling anime, the third season of One-Punch Man, the new Bleach anime, Lycoris Recoil, Chainsaw Man, Overlord, and the Summer Time Rendering adaptation. We followed through AnimeJapan 2022 and Jump Festa ’23, only to bring you the news that included the new Blue Exorcist anime, updates about Jujutsu Kaisen, Demon Slayer, Dr. STONE, Jigokuraku: Hell’s Paradise, and more.

Throughout the year, we followed many seasonals and wrote extensive reviews about them. Some highlights are Date a Live, My Dress-Up Darling, Spy x Family, My Hero Academia, Attack on Titan, and Lycoris Recoil. We wrote about manga, webtoons, light novels, and new anime announcements. We also reviewed manga, novels, games, and even art classes.

We wrote features about the rise of split-cour in anime and paid tributes to industry professionals who left us this year: Manabu Oohashi, Billy Kametz, Kazuki Takahashi, and Yuji Nunokawa, among others. Our team also wrote about the issues in the industry, strikes, and anti-piracy coalitions. We covered issues of plagiarism, firings, and lack of stability in the entertainment industry.

As far as the voice acting industry goes, it was not all that bad. Our seiyuu team worked hard and brought us news and heartfelt messages about roles, marriage and baby announcements, commentary, and also drama here and there.

In 2022 we had the opportunity to interview quite a few people. We started with SiM, the band that performed the latest Attack on Titan opening, and ended with the founders of the webtoon and web novel platform Tappytoon. Along the way, we got to talk to an anime and manga translator, a game designer, an artist, and even the Rooster Fighter mangaka. We also interviewed Wagakki Band and learned about their inspirations. It seems like we will end the year with news about New Year’s celebrations.

In February of this year, we opened our very own Instagram account, followed by Twitter in April. Combined with our Facebook page, all three are growing steadily and are ready for whatever the next year throws at us. We welcomed some new faces, wrote new guidelines, and shuffled things around, only to find ourselves here today. This year has gone by quickly and it involved a lot of effort, hard work, and sleepless nights (yay, time zones). Through all this, our loyal readers and followers (you), have stayed with us. We’d love to thank you for the support because it is thanks to you that we see that our efforts are paying off.

With all this said, we would love to wish you a Happy New Year and we hope that you will spend it with us. Have a great one and see you tomorrow (probably) (^∀^●)
