The upcoming Bibliophile Princess anime adaptation has revealed its first-ever trailer and a teaser visual. The main cast was also revealed and includes Reina Ueda as Elianna Bernstein and Ryohei Kimura as Christopher Selkirk Ascherald. The premiere date has been set for October 2022.
The anime will be animated by studio MADHOUSE. Taro Iwasaki is directing the series, and Hirota Mitsutaka is doing the series composition. Meanwhile, Takahashi Mizuka is doing the character designs.
Reina Ueda commented on the upcoming role:
“I did not expect to be cast in this role, so when I heard that I had passed the audition, I was so surprised that I was not sure if I was really the right choice. I really love Eliana, who grows little by little in each episode, and her interactions with His Highness are also cute and soothing. I hope you will enjoy the unique worldview of this work in the anime as well.“
This is a story of a world that is completely unfamiliar to us, yet one that we all have envisioned at some point, one that we can all feel a sense of longing and familiarity with. The story centers on Eliana and Christopher, two of the most special people in the world, and covers a wide range of personal interactions, political events, history, and relations between countries. For now, however, please enjoy focusing on their love story. It’s just two people in love on a small scale, but it’s a very engaging and entertaining one!
Statement from Kimura Ryouhei (via official website, ACN edit)
Bibliophile Princess, also known as Mushikaburi Hime, is based on a light novel written by Yui and illustrated by Satsuki Shiina. A manga adaptation is currently being serialized at the Comic Zero-Sum. English versions of both the light novel and manga are licensed by J-Novel Club, and the plot is described as follows:
When book-loving Lady Elianna spots Prince Christopher—her betrothed in name only—consorting with another noble lady, she realizes the recent rumors must be true. The prince has someone he truly loves, which means the annulment of their engagement is both inevitable and fast-approaching. What she doesn’t realize is that this is merely a surface ripple—one of many where the truth runs deep, in a conspiracy surpassing her imagination!
