Blue Exorcist is getting a new anime season after the Shimane Illuminati Saga, with details set to be revealed at the show’s Anime Japan 2024 stage on Sunday. Studio VOLN animated the sequel, with Daisuke Yoshida as the director. The anime ran for 12 episodes from January 6 to March 23.
Blue Exorcist anime is based on a manga by Kazue Katou. It started serialization in Jump Square magazine in 2009. The first anime season aired in Spring 2011, but it featured an anime original final arc (episodes 16-25). In 2012, a Blue Exorcist movie was released. The second season was titled Blue Exorcist: Kyoto Saga and aired in Winter 2017. It ignored the anime-only arc from the prequel and continued to adapt the manga’s storyline. There is also a side-story titled Blue Exorcist: Kuro’s Trip Away From Home, as well as 2 OVA episodes from season 2. A-1 Pictures animated the whole adaptation. The main cast includes:
