"Deji" Meets Girl to Screen at Fantasia International Film Festival 2021

The upcoming “Deji” Meets Girl anime will have a special screening on August 25th, during the closing day at Fantasia International Film Festival 2021. The teaser will be shown at Montreal’s Cinéma Impérial, before Takashi Miike’s The Great Yokai War: Guardians screening, which is also Fantasia’s Closing Film of 2021

“Deji” Meets Girl is a short episode anime, that is scheduled to air in October 2021. Each of the 12 episodes will be 90 seconds long.

Maise Higa is a high-school freshman from Okinawa. Maise is spending her summer vacation working in her parents’ hotel when one day a guest from Tokyo arrives. The guest’s name is Ichiro Suzuki and after his arrival, weird things start happening.
Fish swimming around the room, tree falling through the roof are just the beginning of a mystery Maise has to unravel. Just what will happen between her and Ichiro? (“Deji” means very)

Ushio Tazawa is directing and doing character designs for “Deji” Meets Girl anime. LIDEN FILMS (Tokyo Revengers) is animating the series, while Akane Marubeni designed original character designs and did series composition. Tazawa worked on movies such as your name., 5 Centimeters per Second, and A Whisker Away.

In addition to Deji Meets Girl, this year’s Fantasia International Film Festival is also doing exclusive North America premieres of movies such as Fortune Favors Lady Nikuko, by Studio 4°C. Pompo: The Cinéphile also had its premiere, after premiering in Japan this June. Some older movies such as Poupelle of Chimney Town got to shine as well.
