A Dragon Ball theme park has been announced for construction in the Qiddya Entertainment City in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Simply called “The Dragon Ball Theme Park,” a teaser video and numerous promotional images have been released for the project. The video is titled “World’s Only Dragon Ball Theme Park,” and you can check it out below.
The theme park will have more than 30 themed rides, including 5 ‘groundbreaking’ attractions. Visitors will also have the option to stay in themed hotels and enjoy different cuisines inside towering landmarks. There will be 7 themed areas, including some iconic landmarks from Dragon Ball such as the “Kame House island,” “Capsule Corporation” and “Beerus’ Planet.”
The park’s signature ride will be the Shenron rollercoaster, which will be based on the iconic dragon from the series and be up to 70 meters tall. Check out some of the promotional images of the project below.
The Dragon Ball theme park is part of the larger Qiddiya project initiated by the Qiddiya Investment Company in Saudi Arabia. This giga-project aims to transform the entertainment landscape in the region. The Dragon Ball theme park will have an impressive size of over 500,000 square meters, which will be divided into the seven themed areas. Fans will be able to enjoy the worlds from original TV series up to Dragon Ball Super. The project aims to bring the dream of what it would be like if the world of Dragon Ball existed in reality to life. The official profiles are showing high expectations of the project.
Akira Toriyama started the Dragon Ball manga in 1984. It was serialized in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump from 1984 to 1989. The Dragon Ball Z sequel started in 1989 and ended in 1995. The sequel to Z, Dragon Ball Super started serialization in 2015 and is still ongoing.
The franchise received numerous anime adaptations, with the latest ones being Dragon Ball Super and Super Dragon Ball Heroes. With the latter one being separate from the main continuity, fans have been excited for the story to continue. The Dragon Ball Super TV anime ran from 2015 to 2018 with a total of 131 episodes. The latest movie Dragon Ball Super: SUPER HERO arrived to theaters in August 2022, and it had a strong opening weekend in North America. In Japan, it earned around 670 million Japanese Yen (~4.93 million USD) during the two-day weekend opening, and 1.9 billion Japanese Yen (~14 million USD) in the first four weeks. A new series titled Dragon Ball: Daima was announced in October 2023.
Akira Toriyama passed away on March 1, 2024.
