As previously announced, the movie will premiere in Japan on January 8th, 2021. It will be the final movie of the series. The author drew the visual and 34 characters are present.

Anime series director Chizuru Miyawaki will be writing the script and direct the film, while the author Sorachi Hideaki will also be involved in the production. The voice actors for the animated series will be returning for their roles as well.

The manga began in 2003 and ended in June 2019. It currently has over 55 million copies in circulation and has inspired several TV anime series with a total of 367 episodes. The last episode aired in July 2018. It already has 2 animated films. The first one premiered in April 2010, and the second premiered in July 2013. “Gintama: The Final” is set to be the third and final movie “for real this time”. Besides the anime series, there have been various light novels and video games for the franchise. A live-action film was released in Japan in July 2017 (by Warner Bros. Pictures).

Synopsis:

The story focuses on Gintoki Sakata who works as an odd-jobs freelancer. He helps a teenage boy named Shinpachi Shimura save his sister Tae from an alien group who want to send her to a brothel. Impressed by Gintoki’s sword skill, Shinpachi becomes his apprentice to pay the bills and learn more about the samurai. The pair later rescues a teenage alien girl with super strength, Kagura, from a Yakuza group. They then accept her into their group and the three become known as the “Yorozuya” ( literally the “The Anything Store”). It’s a fun gag manga with occasional serious arcs which can compare to some of the best action shows.
