The upcoming Lonely Castle in the Mirror anime film has released an official visual, as well as a new trailer. The film will be released in Japanese theaters on December 23 this year.
Ami Toma is voicing the main character Kokoro Anzai. A video showing Toma’s audition for the character has been also published, along with a comment:
“It was my first time auditioning for the role of Kokoro-chan, so I was a bit worried about whether I was right for the role. I myself sometimes have a hard time expressing my thoughts and feelings, so I feel that I am similar to her in that way. When I was reading the original story, I wanted to support Kokoro-chan, so I will do my best to make the film so that everyone who watches it will support her in the same way.”

More staff has also been announced. Keigo Sasaki is the character designer and chief animation director, while Ilya Kuvshinov is responsible for the visual concept and the sole castle design. Harumi Fuuki is doing the music.
The film, directed by Keiichi Hara and animated by A-1 Pictures, is based on the 2017 Japanese novel by Mizuki Tsujimura. It was first published by Poplar Publishing in May 2017. The novel then received a manga adaptation, illustrated by Tomo Taketomi, which was then serialized under Shueisha’s Ultra Jump from June 2019 to February 2022.
Penguin Books has published the novel in English for the United Kingdom, and describes it as:
In a tranquil neighborhood of Tokyo, seven teenagers wake to find their bedroom mirrors are shining. At a single touch, they are pulled from their lonely lives into to a wondrous castle filled with winding stairways, watchful portraits and twinkling chandeliers. In this new sanctuary, they are confronted with a set of clues leading to a hidden room where one of them will be granted a wish. But there’s a catch: if they don’t leave by five o’clock, they will die. As time passes, a devastating truth emerges: those who dare to share their stories will be punished.
