“Sanketsu-girl” Sayuri, who is performing Lycoris Recoil‘s ending theme song “Hana no To“ this season, was diagnosed with glaucoma, which Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the national public health agency of the United States, describes as “a group of diseases that damage the eye’s optic nerve and can result in vision loss and even blindness.“
On September 17, the 26-year-old singer tweeted that her strong nearsighted condition makes her always wear contact lenses, which led her to keratitis, inflammation, or infection of the cornea. The conidition improved, but, after a detailed examination at an ophthalmology clinic, it turned out that she has glaucoma.
In a different tweet, she says “[Glaucoma] was caught early, so putting in eye drops properly leaves me little chance of going blind,” but she also admits it upset her a little because she is still in her 20s. The singer also encouraged her fans to get routine medical checkups.
“Anyone can get glaucoma, but certain groups are at higher risk,” the CDC states. “African Americans over age 40, all people over age 60, people with a family history of glaucoma, and people who have diabetes.”

“Sanketsu-girl” Sayuri was born on June 7, 1996. The 26-year-old singer released her debut CD single “Mikazuki” in August 2015, which was promoted as the ending theme song for the anime Ranpo Kitan: Game of Laplace. She released her 2nd album for the first time in 5 years titled “Sanketsu Shojo,” which compiles songs including Lycoris Recoil‘s ending theme song “Hana no To,” and My Hero Academia Season 4‘s ending theme song “Kokai no Uta.”
Studio A-1 Pictures is producing the original anime Lycoris Recoil whose story was written by Asaura, known for his battles-over-bento-boxes light novel Ben-To. Shingo Adachi, who is known as the chief animation director in the Sword Art Online series, is directing the series.
