The upcoming Sailor Moon Cosmos two-part anime film has added more cast members to its lineup, following the cast additions for Sailor Starlights characters. Both films will premiere later this year – on June 9 and June 30 respectively.
The newly announced cast members include Kotono Mitsuishi (original Sailor Moon series, Neon Genesis Evangelion, One Piece, Jujutsu Kaisen) as a little magical girl called Chibichibi, Nana Mizuki (Naruto, Persona 5, Shaman King, Claymore) as the mysterious princess Kakyu, and Megumi Hayashibara (Neon Genesis Evangelion, Pokemon, Cowboy Bebop, Detective Conan) as the warrior Sailor Galaxia.
Aside from them and the Sailor Starlights characters, cast include:
Toei Animation and Studio DEEN will be animating the film, with Tomoya Takahashi as the director. Kazuyuki Fudeyasu is responsible for the screenplay, with Kazuko Tadano on the character designs, Yumiko Kuga is the art director, and Yasuharu Takanashi is composing the music.
The upcoming Sailor Moon Cosmos film follows the 2021 Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Eternal: The Movie. These films are part of the new anime adaptation called Sailor Moon Crystal. Prior to the films, three seasons were released namely Dark Kingdom (July 2014-January 2015), Black Moon (February 2015-July 2015), and Death Busters (April 2016-June 2016).
The Sailor Moon franchise started with a manga by Naoko Takeuchi. The manga was serialized in Kodansha’s Nakayoshi magazine from 1991 to 1997. The anime adaptation by Toei Animation premiered in 1992 and aired until 1997 includes Sailor Moon (1992–93), Sailor Moon R (1993–94), Sailor Moon S (1994–95), Sailor Moon SuperS (1995–96), and Sailor Moon Sailor Stars (1996–97). In 2022, the Sailor Moon franchise celebrated its 30th anniversary.
