The upcoming sci-fi anime Exception has released a trailer and visual and is set to be released on Netflix exclusively on October 13. 3DCG animation production company 5 and Tatsunoko Production will be collaborating on the production.
Yuzo Sato (Police in a Pod) is directing the anime, and Hirotaka Adachi (Otsuichi) is writing the script. Yoshitaka Amano (Bismark, Ayakashi, Vampire Hunter D, Angel’s Egg) is doing the character designs and Ryuichi Sakamoto is composing the music.
The main cast for the Exception anime includes Chiaki Kobayashi as Lewis, Takahiro Sakurai as Mack, Yuko Kaida as Nina, Takanori Hoshino as Oscar, and Atsumi Tanezaki as Patty.
The Exception anime was first announced during Netflix Geeked 2021, then it released teaser images of the anime during Netflix Geeked 2022. The anime is based on Hirotaka Adachi’s original story. The author, known as Otsuichi, has written multiple novels such as Calling You (2007), Goth (2015), Zoo (2013), Summer, Fireworks, and My Corpse (2010), and Black Fairy Tale (2013). He has also published three mangas named Hajime (2003), Misshitsu Kanojo (2006), and Shonen Shojo Horyuki.
The trailer’s description describes the plot as:
In the far future, humanity has been driven from Earth and forced to move its population to another galaxy. Members of a scouting team are sent to search for a planet suitable for terraforming. The crew is created through a biological 3D printer, but a system malfunction causes one of the crew members, Lewis, to emerge in a deformed state. As Lewis turns on his fellow crew members Nina, Mack, Patty and Oscar, a countdown to the end of the mission begins in the frightening darkness of the ship.
