Shikimori's Not Just a Cutie Delays Broadcast Due to COVID-19 Outbreak

Shikimori’s Not Just a Cutie anime will be facing delays due to a COVID-19 outbreak at the production studio. The production committee revealed the information on the official website, stating that the health and safety of the employees are a priority and asking fans for understanding.

While episode 6 will air as scheduled, the rest of the episodes’ release dates have been slightly changed. The new broadcast schedule has been revealed:

  • May 14 – Episode 6
  • May 21 – Special program 1
  • May 28 – Episode 7
  • June 4 – Episode 8
  • June 11 – Special program 2
  • June 18 – Episode 9
  • June 25 – Episode 10
  • July 2 – Episode 11
  • July 9 – Episode 12

The special programs include a re-broadcast of the first episode with commentary by the main cast (Saori Onishi, Shuichiro Umeda, Rina Hidaka) and a special show dedicated to the cast and their favorite scenes. The second special program will be attended by Saori Onishi and Shuichiro Umeda.

This is not the first time that Shikimori’s Not Just a Cutie production is facing delays. On April 8, the production committee issued a similar statement saying that the studio has been temporarily shut down due to the rising number of COVID-19 cases. However, the second episode aired as scheduled and so have all the other episodes so far.

Studio Doga Koba is animating the series, with Ryota Ito as the director. Ai Kikuchi is doing the character designs. Yoshimi Narita will be overseeing the series composition, while Hiroaki Tsutsumi is composing the music. The anime is based on a manga by Keigo Maki. Kodansha USA is publishing the manga in English and describes the plot as:
Shikimori seems like the perfect girlfriend: cute, fun to be around, sweet when she wants to be… but she has a cool dark side that comes out under the right circumstances. And her boyfriend Izumi loves to be around when that happens! A fun and funny high school romance with a sassy twist perfect for fans of Nagatoro-san and Komi Can’t Communicate!
