Masaomi Andou (Astra: Lost in Space) is directing SHY anime at studio 8bit. He’s joined by Kousaku Taniguchi who will work as the assistant director. Yasuhiro Nakanishi (Kaguya-sama: Love Is War) is in charge of the script, with Yuuichi Tanaka (A Certain Scientific Railgun) on the main character designs. Hinako Tsubakiyama (Sabikui Bisco) is composing the music.

SHY is based on the manga written and illustrated by Bukimi Miki. The currently ongoing manga began serialization in Weekly Shonen Champion in August 2019 and has since released 21 volumes. Yen Press licenses the series in English and has released the first four volumes, with Volume 5 set to release on December 12, 2023.

Yen Press licenses the series in English and describes the series as:
Earth was on the brink of a third World War when super-powered individuals came forth from each country around the globe, ending the conflict and ushering in a new era of relative peace. Among those heroes, Japan is represented by a timid young girl known as “Shy.” She may spend more time worrying about her own shortcomings than she does battling villains, but she’ll show the world that despite it all she still has the heart of a hero!

SHY episode 2 will be released on October 9, 2023.
