Summer Time Rendering spin-off light novel, titled Summer Time Rendering 2026 Nagumo Ryunosuke no Ibun Hyakkei, is now out in Japan. Hotori Handa is the author behind the work based on Yasuki Tanaka’s manga. The light novel serves as a sequel and is set after the events of the main storyline. It follows writer Ryunosuke Nagumo (real name Hizuru Hikata) and her niece Heine, as they investigate four strange cases. Shueisha’s JUMP j BOOKS is serializing the novel.
This is not the first Summer Time Rendering spin-off: a manga titled The Room that Dreams of Murder by Yasuri Tanaka was published earlier this year (in July). It also follows Ryunosuke and her niece and MangaPLUS describes the story as:
The novelist Ryunosuke Nagumo is apartment hunting with her niece, who’s been accepted into Tokyo University. They happen upon a large apartment for cheap—except, it’s haunted!
Summer Time Rendering was originally a suspense-mystery manga by Yasuki Tanaka. Shonen Jump+ online magazine serialized it from 2017 to 2021. Studio OLM animated the anime adaptation, which aired from April to September of this year.
The manga is available on Shueisha’s MANGA Plus platform. The plot is described as:
Upon hearing of Ushio’s death, Shinpei returns to his hometown of Wakayama City on Hitogashima and reunites with his childhood friend’s family. The funeral goes smoothly, but under the surface something strange is brewing on the island. What mysteries await him on this secluded summer island?
