Super Mario Bros Movie Earns Over 370 Million, Highest Earning Animated Movie Opening in History

The Super Mario Bros Movie has showing in theaters since April 7, and it has broke the previous global record held by Frozen 2 for the highest earning animated movie opening in history by earning over $370 million dollars. This is about $12 million higher than Frozen’s opening from back in 2019, which was $358 million. It also took Warcraft as the highest earning game adaptation. The movie delivered an extremely entertaining watch, and you can watch the trailer below:

The Super Mario movie was produced by Illumination and Nintendo, while Universal Pictures is distributing it. It was directed by Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic, with screenplay by Matthew Fogel. The movie is the third feature film adaptation of the popular video game franchise, and the English voice cast includes:

  • Chris Pratt as Mario
  • Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach
  • Charlie Day as Luigi
  • Jack Black as Bowser
  • Keegan-Michael Key as Toad
  • Seth Rogen as Donkey Kong
  • Fred Armisen as Cranky Kong
  • Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek
  • Sebastian Maniscalco as Foreman Spike

The Japanese cast includes Mamoru Miyano as Mario, Tasuku Hatanaka as Luigi, Arisa Shida as Princess Peach, Kenta Miyake as Bowser, Tomokazu Seki as Toad. The movie will premiere in Japan on April 28.

Prior adaptations for Super Mario were the 1986 anime film Super Mario Bros.: The Great Mission to Rescue Princess Peach! and the 1993 live-action film Super Mario Bros.
