Sword Art Online Alternative: Gun Gale Online Season 2 has been announced during the 30th Dengeki Bunko Summer Festival that was held on July 15, 2023, on ABEMA TV. You can check out the teaser visual below:
The sequel to the spin-off anime is part of Sword Art Online’s 10th-anniversary project. Masayuki Sakoi is returning to direct the second season. He directed the first season, which aired in the Spring of 2018 anime season, at Studio 3Hz, it and had a total of 12 episodes. Masayuki also made an illustration to commemorate the announcement:

The anime is based on Keiichi Sigsawa’s Sōdo Āto Onrain Orutanatibu Gangeiru Onrain (Sword Art Online Alternative: Gun Gale Online) light novel series. ASCII Media Works has been serializing it with Reki Kawahara’s supervision and Kouhaku Kuroboshi’s illustrations, since 2014, and it currently has 13 volumes in circulation. It is a spin-off series to Reki Kawahara’s Sword Art Online light novel series. A manga adaptation by Tadadi Tamori was published by the same publisher from 2015 to 2021 on Dengeki Maoh, and it had a total of 4 volumes available.
Yen Press is serializing the Sword Art Online Alternative: Gun Gale Online light novel series in English and describes the plot as:
