The Apothecary Diaries Announces Additional Cast for Episode 22

The Apothecary Diaries episode 22 will be welcoming two new cast members into the anime. Voice actress Mamiko Noto has been cast for the role of the Empress Dowager while voice actor Cho was cast as Shishou, the father of consort Loulan. Mamiko Noto is known for her roles as Sawako Kuronuma in Kimi ni Todoke, Kotomi Ichinose in Clannad, and Rin in Inuyasha. Meanwhile, Cho is known for his roles as Brook in ONE PIECE, Souichiro in Fire Force, and Jaken in Inuyasha. The new characters will officially be making their voice debut in episode 22, which will be airing on March 8, 2024.

Aside from the Empress Dowager and Shishou’s introduction in The Apothecary Diaries episode 22 preview, a separate visual was made for the new cast announcement:

The titular apothecary Maomao is voiced by Aoi Yuki while the male protagonist Jinshi is voiced by Takeo Otsuka. The rest of the voice cast of The Apothecary Diaries includes:

The Apothecary Diaries is a Japanese light novel series written by Natsu Hyuga and illustrated by Toko Shino. Shunfunotomo’s Hero Bunko currently publishes the light novel series, J-Novel Club publishes the digital English version, and Square Enix publishes the novels in print. The series also has two manga adaptations: the manga series of the same name by Itsuki Nanao, illustrated by Nekokurage; and “Kusuriya no Hitorigoto: Maomao no Kokyu Nazotoki Techo (The Apothecary Diaries: The Palace Cloister Mystery-Solving Notebook of Maomao)” by Minoji Kurata. TOHO Animation and OML are currently animating The Apothecary Diaries series under the direction of Norihiro Naganuma. The anime available on Netflix and Crunchyroll in select regions. Crunchyroll describes the plot:
Maomao lived a peaceful life with her apothecary father. Until one day, she’s sold as a lowly servant to the emperor’s palace. But she wasn’t meant for a compliant life among royalty. So when imperial heirs fall ill, she decides to step in and find a cure! This catches the eye of Jinshi, a handsome palace official who promotes her. Now, she’s making a name for herself solving medical mysteries!
