The previously announced The Masterful Cat Is Depressed Again Today anime released its first trailer. The anime is set to air this July 7. Studio GoHands is animating the series with Susumu Kudo as chief director and Katsumasa Yokomine as director.
Yui Ishikawa is voicing the office worker Saku Fukuzawa while Hiroki Yasumoto is playing the cat, Yukichi. Tamazo Yanagi is writing the scripts and Takayuki Uchida is illustrating character designs. The anime adaptation was announced in May of 2022.
The TV anime adaptation of The Masterful Cat Is Depressed Again Today is based on the manga with the same title by Hitsuji Yamada. It was originally launched in Kodansha’s Suiyobi no Sirius online manga section on the Nico Nico Seiga website in August 2018. In October 2021 it started serialization in Kodansha’s Monthly Shonen Sirius magazine and currently has 7 volumes in circulation.
Seven Seas Entertainment is licensing the manga in English and describes it as:
Saku is an ordinary young woman who works long hours and lives alone with her cat, Yukichi. Yukichi, however, is not an ordinary house cat. For one, the temperamental feline towers over Saku and walks around on two legs. Instead of playing with toy mice, he scours supermarket flyers for good deals and keeps the house spotless. With a pet like that, it’s hard to tell who’s taking care of who!
