On December 7, 2020, Oricon reported that Violet Evergarden: the Movie accumulated more than 2 billion yen (~US$19,2 million) at the Japanese box office. Not only that, but it is the second film by Kyoto Animation, after Koe no Katachi, to surpass that number. For 11 weeks straight, the film was in the top 10 films airing in Japanese cinemas. After all this, it finally fell off the top 10 currently airing movies during Week 12. As we know, the film opened in Japan on September 18, 2020.

Kyoto Animation was really thankful for all the support. They even thanked all fans over at the Violet Evergarden official Twitter. After 79 days Violet Evergarden: the Movie made as much as 2,014,268,250 yen (~US$19,315,670). This makes Violet Evergarden the 8 highest-grossing animated films worldwide of 2020. What’s more, it’s now above Fate/stay night: Heaven’s Feel III. spring song and just below Digimon Adventure: Last Evolution Kizuna. Moreover, Violet Evergarden: the Movie will start airing in more cinemas, giving the anime more opportunities to grow even more. It seems that postponing the premiere once due to COVID-19 (it was supposed to premiere on April 24, 2020) affected the film too much.
