Violet Evergarden: The Movie is now streaming on Netflix worldwide. The movie came out in 2020 in Japan and was also available in select theatres in U.S. and Canada, but this is the first time fans all over the world will be able to watch it.
This is a second Violet Evergarden movie. A spin-off movie, Violet Evergarden: Eternity and the Auto Memory Doll premiered in August of 2019 and is also available to stream on Netflix.
The series is based on Violet Evergarden light novel by Kana Akatsuki. Violet Evergarden Gaiden side story also exists, along with a sequel novel titled Violet Evergarden: Ever After. The anime adaptation by studio Kyoto Animation aired in 2018 and had 13 episodes. The first season was followed by a side-story special and the first movie.
Taichi Ishidate directed Violet Evergarden: The Movie, while also doing the storyboard. In addition to providing the illustrations for the light novels, Akiko Takase did the character designs and was the chief animation director for the movie. Reiko Yoshida wrote the script, and Evan Cell composed the music.
As the world moves on from the war and technological advances bring changes to her life, Violet still hopes to see her lost commanding officer again.
