Voice Actress Tarako Passed Away at 63

Voice actress Tarako, known for her roles as Sakura Momoko, nicknamed Maruko, in Chibi Maruko-chan, Monokuma in Danganronpa 3: The End of Hope’s Peak High School, and Kirara in Inuyasha, has passed away at the age of 63 on March 4, 2024.

Troubador Musique Office, the late voice actress’ agency announced on their website, stating that Tarako had been battling an illness while continuing to work, but unfortunately, her condition deteriorated, leading to her passing. The agency expressed gratitude to Tarako’s fans and all those involved in her career for their support. Her funeral service was held for close relatives only and the talent agency refrains from further stating personal information.

Tarako has an upcoming role in the Dead Dead Demon’s Dededede Destruction movie as Debeko, and the final episode of Chibi Maruko-chan starring her as the main character Maruko is set on 24 March. Aside from the mentioned roles, the voice actress also played a part in other series such as in Hunter x Hunter as Melody, Dragon Ball as Tama, Nichijou – My Ordinary Life as the narrator, Trigun Stampede as Zazie the Beast, and Mikan Enikki as Mikan.

The 18th Seiyu Awards paid tribute to the voice actress by starting the ceremony with a moment of silence for her and Akira Toriyama‘s passing.
