86 Eighty-Six

The 86 Eighty-Six anime series (studio: A-1 Pictures) is based on the light novels of the same name written by Asato Asato and illustrated by Shirabi. There are currently 13 volumes published with no announced release date for Volume 14. Yen Press is publishing the series in English and has published the first 12 volumes. Asato announced in Volume 13 that the next volume would start the final arc of the story. All 23 episodes of the 86 Eighty-Six anime are streaming on Crunchyroll.

Yen Press describes the story of 86 Eighty-Six as:
A War Without Casualties The Republic of San Magnolia has long been under attack from the neighboring Giadian Empire’s army of unmanned drones known as the Legion. After years of painstaking research, the Republic finally developed autonomous drones of their own, turning the one-sided struggle into a war without casualties-or at least, that’s what the government claims. In truth, there is no such thing as a bloodless war. Beyond the fortified walls protecting the eighty-five Republic territories lies the “nonexistent” Eighty-Sixth Sector. The young men and women of this forsaken land are branded the Eighty-Six and, stripped of their humanity, pilot the “unmanned” weapons into battle…

Muv-Luv Dimensions

Muv Luv Dimensions was originally launched in March 2023 under the title of Immortals: Muv Luv but was shut down just hours after launching. The free RPG mobile game was re-released on iOS and Android months later in July under the new name. Muv Luv Dimensions is developed by aNCHOR Inc. with Hayato Tashiro and Akira Yamazaki working as directors for the game. The game takes place in an alternate universe of Muv Luv Alternative and includes many popular characters from the franchise. The 86 Eighty-Six collab isn’t the first for Muv-Luv Dimensions. The game also collaborated with Ghost in The Shell: SAC_2045 in 2023.

The Muv Luv Alternative anime series aired from October 7 to December 23 during the Fall 2021 season and is based on the visual novels of the same name. Studios Yumeta Company and Graphinica handled the animation production. Yukio Nishimoto directed Muv-Luv Alternative while Tatsuhiko Urahata handled the series composition. All 12 episodes are currently streaming on Crunchyroll, which describes the series as:
A story of the bonds between those who fight, in a world pushed to its limits. On one of the countless parallel worlds that exist throughout spacetime, humanity has fought a decades long war against the BETA, hostile extraterrestrial invaders, using humanoid fighting machines called Tactical Surface Fighters. This is a story of how humanity lives and dies while on the brink of extinction…
