UPDATE (SEP 29): Alice in Borderland Season 3 has been officially announced.
Netflix has released a teaser for season 3 of the Alice in Borderland live-action, which concluded its second season with a potential cliff-hanger featuring the Joker card. The teaser also consists of playing cards, and you can see it below:
Fans have decoded that, when you take the suits of each card and then the letter that coincides with the number on the card, it spells out ALICE THREE. So it’s like:
The Alice in Borderland live-action co-stars Kento Yamazaki as Ryuhei Arisu and Tao Tsuchiya as Yuzuha Usagi. The second season introduced additional cast members, including Tomohisa Yamashita as “King of Clubs” Kyuma, Yuri Tsunematsu as Heiya, Hayato Isomura as Banda, Kai Inowaki as Matsushita, Katsuya Maiguma as Yaba and Honami Sato as Kotoko. Netflix streams the show, and they describe the story:
Arisu and Usagi must unravel the mysteries of the Borderland in order to return to their world. Shifting from the shocking setting of an empty Shibuya in the first season, this season is set in a devastated Shibuya covered in plants. Don’t miss a second of this survival game packed with intense action and a thrilling story!
The original Alice in Borderland manga by Haro Aso ran from November 2010 to March 2016, and it ended with 64 chapters over 18 compilation volumes. The first season of the live-action covered around 31 chapters in 8 episodes, while the second covered the rest of the main story (making some changes, such as excluding some games, not showing Joker and instead teasing him as a card, etc.). However, there was a direct sequel to the manga by the author titled Alice in Borderland Retry, where the protagonist Ryohei Arisu finds himself in Borderland again and has to go through more deadly games. It was compiled in two volumes.
There was another spin-off manga Alice in Border Road featuring different characters and not so many games, so it’s likely that’d be called a third season. There’s also a chance of it being an original, so stay tuned for future updates!
