Black Butler: Public School Arc anime premiered yesterday to the joy of many anime watchers all over the world. The episode sparked quite a few comments, mainly from loyal fans of the franchise, who were somewhat surprised by changes in Sebastian’s design – primarily eye color. The opening, “The Parade of Battlers” by Otoha, managed to get almost 80 thousand views in under 24 hours and has gathered mostly positive comments:
The ending, which features Sid’s “Shokuzai” as the theme song, got slightly fewer views – 72 thousand but was similarly well received.
Black Butler: Public School Arc is the sequel to the Book of Atlantis, which premiered seven years ago. Studio CloverWorks is animating with Kenjiro Okada (March Comes in Like a Lion) as the director and Hiroyuki Yoshino on the series composition. Yumi Shimizu is in charge of the character designs. Ryo Kawasaki is composing the music. Maaya Sakamoto and Daisuke Ono are returning as Ciel Phantomhive and Sebastian Michaelis.
Crunchyroll is streaming the anime, which adapts Yana Toboso’s Black Butler manga, serialized in Square Enix’s Monthly GFantasy since September 2006. Crunchyroll describes the plot as:
Ciel Phantomhive is the most powerful boy in all of England, but he bears the scars of unspeakable suffering. Forced to watch as his beloved parents were brutally murdered, Ciel was subsequently abducted and violently tortured. Desperate to end his suffering, the boy traded his own soul for a chance at vengeance, casting his lot with the one person on whom he could depend: Sebastian, a demon Butler summoned from the very pits of hell. Together, they’ll prowl the darkest alleys of London on a mission to snuff out those who would do evil.
