Blue Orchestra (Ao no Orchestra) anime will premiere in April 2023, as announced earlier with the first trailer. Studio Nippon Animation will be animating the series, with Seiji Kishi (Assassination Classroom) as the director. Yuko Kakihara (Chihayafuru) is in charge of the scripts and series composition, while Kazuaki Morita will be designing the characters.
The first Blue Orchestra anime trailer shows the main character, Aono, playing Pachelbel’s Canon on a riverbank. Japanese violinist Ryota Higashi will be recording the music for the adaptation.
The story follows Hajime Aono who spent his childhood playing the violin. However, as he grows up he stops playing because he starts to feel burnout. He reaches middle school and realizes that he doesn’t know what to do with his life, which makes it difficult for him to choose which direction to take with his education. One day he meets Ritsuko Akine, whose dream is to get into a high school with a good orchestra club. Hajime finds himself getting close to Ritsuko and she further drags him back into the world of music…
Blue Orchestra is based on a manga by Makoto Akui, serialized since 2017 on Shogakukan’s Manga ONE app. Ten volumes are currently out. The manga has not been licensed in English yet.
