Boruto Anime Gets New Visual for the Upcoming Himawari-Centered Arc

Boruto: Naruto the Next Generations anime revealed a new key visual for the upcoming “Kawaki / Himawari Ninja School Edition” arc, which is set to begin in August. The visual was drawn by mangaka Mikio Ikemoto, who draws the art for the Boruto manga and who also assisted with the original Naruto. The arc will center on Himawari Uzumaki (Saori Hayami) and Kawaki (Yuma Uchida):

Three new cast members were revealed, along with their character designs:

  • Takuto Yoshinaga as Eiki Fuma
  • Inori Minase as Kae Yukiwari
  • And Rina Hidaka as Osuka Kamakura

Pierrot is adapting the Boruto story, originally written by Ukyo Kodachi. Naruto author, Masashi Kishimoto later took over the story, which features Ikemoto’s illustrations. The manga started in the Weekly Shonen Jump magazine in 2016 but moved to V Jump in 2019. Viz Media licensed the manga in English and 14 volumes are out. They describe the plot as:

Years have passed since Naruto and Sasuke teamed up to defeat Kaguya, the progenitor of chakra and the greatest threat the ninja world has ever faced. Times are now peaceful and the new generation of shinobi has not experienced the same hardships as its parents. Perhaps that is why Boruto would rather play video games than train. However, one passion does burn deep in this ninja boy’s heart, and that is the desire to defeat his father!

Crunchyroll is streaming the anime, which has been airing since the Spring 2017 anime season.
