The 8th Crunchyroll Anime Awards (2024) just saw the popular anime Chainsaw Man break the unfortunate record held by Ranking of Kings for the most losses at the Awards with 19 losses. Ranking of Kings (Cour 2) previously held the record with 16 losses after receiving 17 nominations. The series had won Best VA Performance (French) with Brigitte Lecordier’s role as Bojji.
Ultimately, it appears that Chainsaw Man was a victim of its own success with its numerous nominations. The series broke the record for most nominations with 25 when the full list of nominees was released in January. It’s worth noting that Crunchyroll’s site states that as with the 2023 and 2022 editions, judges’ votes count 70% towards the final winners.
Despite the losses, Chainsaw Man did register a massive win for Best New Series. As per the full list of Crunchyroll Anime Award winners, Chainsaw Man also won Best Voice Actor Performance: Castilian (Joel Gómez Jimenez, Denji), Best Voice Actor Performance: English (Ryan Colt Levy, Denji), Best Voice Actor Performance: Italian (Mosè Singh, Denji), and Best Voice Actor Performance: Latin Spanish (Emilio Treviño, Denji).
The future of Chainsaw Man is nonetheless bright. Anime fans have much to look forward to following the Chainsaw Man: Reze Arc movie announcement, while the manga series has moved into a new arc, teasing the possible reintroduction of a fan-favorite character who debuted in Part 2.
Chainsaw Man was animated by MAPPA, with direction by Ryu Nakayama, screenplay by Hiroshi Seko, and music by Kensuke Ushio. The series is streaming on Crunchyroll, which describes it:
Denji is a young boy who works as a Devil Hunter with the “Chainsaw Devil” Pochita.
One day, as he was living his miserable life trying to pay off the debt he inherited from his parents, he got betrayed and killed. As he was losing his consciousness, he made a deal with Pochita, and got resurrected as the “Chainsaw Man”: the owner of the Devil’s heart.
