In celebration of their Fall 2023 slate of anime, Crunchyroll teamed up with the UK-based rapper Che Lingo and Cö shu Nie’s Miku Nakamura to produce an original song, titled “LIFETIME.” The song featured in Crunchyroll’s Fall 2023 seasonal trailer:
Che Lingo is a lifelong fan of anime and isn’t a stranger to working in the industry, either. The South London-born rapper said back in 2021 that he would love to produce a soundtrack for Dr. Stone or JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure in a post via X (formerly Twitter). Che Lingo also worked with composer Hiroaki Tsutsumi on the Jujutsu Kaisen Original Soundtrack‘s “Be Prepared.” He features numerous references to his love of anime in his music, as seen in “Jaded” from his latest album, Coming Up For Air:
“Grew up playing ball watching anime with my friends. Soon it’s flights to Japan so then man can pay me in yen.”
Co shu Nie’s music continues to feature in some of the biggest anime, having worked on The Promised Neverland, Psycho-Pass, and Tokyo Ghoul:re. The band also released a music video in collaboration with Jujutsu Kaisen on their hit song “give it back,” which won Reddit’s r/anime Awards for Best Ending Song in 2021 for the Public category.
Che Lingo goes into detail on his love for anime, inspirations for his music, aspirations for the future, and more in an extended interview with Crunchyroll. Visuals for the Che Lingo x Crunchyroll soundtrack are below:
