Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba - To the Swordsmith Village Earns Over 1.1 Billion Yen During the Opening Weekend

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – To the Swordsmith Village special earned 1,158,765,410 yen (around 8,7 million USD) during the opening weekend in Japan. The special screening consists of the final two episodes of the Entertainment District arc and the first episode of the Swordsmith Village arc began on February 3. It has since attracted over 813,000 viewers. The US premiere is happening on February 18 in Los Angeles and it will include a special stage greeting.

The first episode of the Swordsmith Village arc also marks the beginning of the third season of the Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba TV anime. The anime will premiere in April of this year. MAN WITH A MISSION and milet are performing the opening theme song “Kizuna no Kiseki.” During a special program last week, the anime unveiled new cast additions as well as a trailer for Upper Moons that will appear in the upcoming arc:

It’s worth noting that Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – To the Swordsmith Village is now the second-biggest February opening of all time in Japanese history (The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King still holds the top spot). It is also the second-biggest opening of the year, with the first being The First Slam Dunk.

Demon Slayer is based on a manga by Koyoharu Gotoge. It ran from 2016 to 2020 in the Weekly Shonen Jump and ended after 205 chapters, compiled into 23 volumes. It received an anime adaptation by the studio Ufotable in 2019 and quickly became a world-known phenomenon. Yesterday, it revealed a special promotional video dedicated to the Twelve Moons.

The first season had 26 episodes and was followed by Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – Mugen Train movie in 2020. The movie was an enormous success, both in Japan and overseas. Season 2 of Demon Slayer started in October of 2021 with a TV version of the Mugen Train arc. The movie was adapted into 7 episodes and it included a special first episode that wasn’t part of the movie. The second part of the second season was the Entertainment District Arc, which introduced a new Hashira – Tengen Uzui.
