Drifting Home, the anime film from Studio Colorido, released a new trailer and a key visual ahead of September 16 premiere. The film will stream on Netflix and will also have a theatrical release in Japan.
Hiroyasu Ishida is directing the Drifting Away film, with Hayashi Mori and Hiroyasu Ishida on the screenplay. Akihiro Nagae will be responsible for the character designs, with Fumi Kato’s assistance. The cast has been announced:

Sixth-graders Kosuke and Natsume grew up in the same apartment building as childhood friends. During summer break, while playing in the apartment building that is set to be demolished, they find themselves caught in a strange phenomenon. All they can see around them is a vast sea. Will Kosuke and the others make it back to their world? A journey of farewells in summer has just begun.
Drifting Home was first announced during the Netflix TUDUM Anime event, held on September 25, 2021. This is the third release from Studio Colorido, the first being the 2018 movie Penguin Highway and the second A Whisker Away from 2020. Their debut film Penguin Away was nominated for Best Animation during the 42nd Japan Academy Film Prize.
