The previously announced official English release of Another 2001 light novel by Yen Press has been pushed back once again – this time to December 13, 2022. Although originally scheduled for March 22 release, the light novel faced multiple delays: first, it was pushed to May, then June, and then, on June 16 the release date was listed as September 20, only to now be listed as December.
The reasons for the delays are not clear, although supply issues (that we have written about) and paper shortage are possible culprits. Delays are not an uncommon occurrence, especially now, but we reached out to Yen Press on June 16 to learn more about the situation. However, we have not received a reply as of today.
Another 2001 is a sequel to the highly popular Another light novel by Yukito Ayatsuji. The original novel received an anime adaptation by studio P.A. Works in 2012. Ayatsuji also wrote the sequel, which features Hiro Kiyohara’s illustrations. The book was published on September 30, 2020, in Japan by Kadokawa.
Yen Press’ release will be available in both digital and hardcover editions. Hardcover, which will have 290 pages, will cost $25.00, while digital is priced at $9.99. Yen Press describes the plot of Another 2001 as:
IT HAS BEEN THREE YEARS since the “calamity” of 1998 that claimed the lives of many students in Yomiyama North Middle’s Class 3. After Sou Hiratsuka, an acquaintance of 1998 survivor Mei Misaki, discovers that he’s being placed into the cursed class, he and his peers develop a series of countermeasures to avert a new tragedy. But when Sou’s classmates and their family members begin dying in a series of horrific “accidents,” he and Mei realize that the calamity has taken hold of their town once again. To stem the tides of death, the pair will be forced to reckon with Yomiyama’s deepest mysteries…
