The much-awaited second cour of Dr. Stone‘s third season has started, and if the weekly wait for new episodes is too long for you, then why not watch something similar in the meantime? If you like science and action plots, there is certainly no shortage of titles to recommend. But how many of them will actually resonate with you? After careful consideration, we came up with these titles, so here are the five anime you can watch if you like Dr. Stone:
An anime that also involves science, Cells at Work is a one-of-a-kind series that shows cells inside the body and doing their usual jobs, but with a twist — they’re in human form. Cells at Work and Dr. Stone both involve science, however, they are not that alike, especially in their themes, settings, and overall focus of the series. Still, it’s worth saying that much like Dr. Stone, Cells at Work is educational and exciting and it will surely make you laugh too! This series focuses on the interaction and teamwork between the cells to keep an individual healthy and with the series’ lighthearted flow and tone, you will surely learn a lot about the human immune system, various bodily processes, and more things biology-related without feeling pressured to actually learn. Who knows maybe you’ll pass your biology exam because of Cells at Work?
Crunchyroll is streaming the Cells at Work anime and describes the series as:
This is a story about you. A tale about the inside of your body… According to a new study, the human body consists of approximately 37 trillion cells. These cells are hard at work every day within a world that is your body. From the oxygen carrying Red Blood Cells to the bacteria fighting White Blood Cells, Get to know the unsung heroes and the drama that unfolds inside of you!
The next title on the list is Made in Abyss. If you’re looking for an anime to watch that has Dr. Stone‘s adventure theme and exploration storylines, then you might enjoy this one. Similar to Dr. Stone, the characters in this series also embark on a thrilling journey, but inside a mysterious abyss. The protagonist keeps going forward with a sense of curiosity to uncover the mysteries of the abyss and to achieve their goals. Riko and Reg, the main characters of the series, also explore their bond as they face obstacles together, which is beneficial for both of them because of the dangers that lurk in the abyss. All we can say about this anime is not to let the adorable art style fool you. Indeed, while there are similarities between Dr. Stone and Made in Abyss, it is important to take note that the latter is actually much darker and focuses on the mystery, fantasy, and horror.
HIDIVE is streaming the anime and describes the plot as:
Within the depths of the Abyss, a girl named Riko stumbles upon a robot who looks like a young boy. Riko and her new friend descend into uncharted territory to unlock its mysteries, but what lies in wait for them in the darkness?
Field trip in space? What could go wrong? Well, that’s also what we thought while watching the first few minutes of Dr. Stone. “A regular school day? What could go wrong?” But then, unfortunate things happen, and voilà! — We get another amazing anime. Astra Lost in Space, like Dr. Stone, involves science, but in a different setting. The story of Astra Lost in Space is set in the future where space travel is already a thing, however, due to unexpected events, the characters become stranded in space and they try to look for a way to return home. This anime also has Dr. Stone’s exploration stories, but instead of exploring from island to island, the characters in Astra Lost in Space journey through different celestial bodies where they develop friendships along the way.
Crunchyroll describes the plot as:
Eight high school students and a kid are flown out to Planet Camp, tasked with surviving on their own for a few days. But shortly after arriving, an ominous glowing orb warps them to an unknown quadrant of space, nearly 5,012 lightyears away.
Like Dr. Stone, this anime is also related to science. A Netflix series based on the early 2000s manga, 7Seeds is an anime whose main theme also includes survival and mystery. This anime is set in a post-apocalyptic world where the existence of humans is again in danger, much like in Dr. Stone. However, in 7Seeds, humanity is wiped out due to natural catastrophes. The government predicted this could happen, and that is why they prepared a program that would ensure that the lives of humans in this world will continue. Somehow, this reminds me of what Senku’s “father” and his crewmates did to guarantee that Senku will not be alone as he tries to revive humans and civilization. Furthermore, both series include a diverse set of characters, each of whom has special abilities and roles to play in the group. In both of these titles, the importance of teamwork and cooperation is emphasized because they will need it. To overcome obstacles, these people must cooperate.
Netflix is streaming the series and describes the plot as:
Shy Natsu awakens as part of a group chosen to ensure the survival of humanity. Together, they have to survive on a changed Earth.
Although The Disastrous Life of Saiki K. and Dr. Stone have differences when it comes to their genre and themes, it cannot be denied that they still share some similarities. Both anime present a unique story, and of course, it must also have unique main characters. Senku is known to be an incredibly intelligent man, especially if it’s about science and technology, while Saiki has psychic powers which give him the ability to do a lot of things that we can only see in superhero movies. We can say that both of them have an advantage over most people and this advantage is what makes them unique. In addition, in both of these titles, we see a very diverse cast that has its own strengths and weaknesses. These supporting characters are unique and they bring a new story to the table whenever they appear. Another similarity is that they both have comedic elements: these two anime because they never fail to make us laugh and make our day much brighter. I honestly thought I wasn’t going to like Dr. Stone, but once I did and learned how lighthearted it is, I knew it was one of the best decisions I have ever made.
The Disastrous Life Of Saiki K. is available on Netflix, where the plot is described as:
High school sophomore Kusuo Saiki swore as a child that he would keep his psychic talents hidden, but his abilities still make his life difficult.
These are just some of the thrilling and kinda scientific anime you can watch if you like Dr. Stone. Senku’s journey to start civilization from scratch had us all hooked on the story, which is why it’s no wonder that Dr. Stone is enjoyed by many science-loving anime fans. The second cour of Dr. Stone: New World premiered on October 12, Thursday, and it is being directed by Shuhei Matsushita with TMS Entertainment producing it.
