The manga written by Kanehito Yamada and illustrated by Tsukasa Abe has been serialized in the Weekly Shonen Sunday magazine since 2020. Viz Media licensed it in English and describes the plot as:
Elf mage Frieren and her courageous fellow adventurers have defeated the Demon King and brought peace to the land. With the great struggle over, they all go their separate ways to live a quiet life. But as an elf, Frieren, nearly immortal, will long outlive the rest of her former party. How will she come to terms with the mortality of her friends? How can she find fulfillment in her own life, and can she learn to understand what life means to the humans around her? Frieren begins a new journey to find the answer.
Both the author and the illustrator commented thanking fans for the support.
Thanks to all the readers and to Mr. Tsukasa, the artist, we were able to make it into an anime. I am very grateful.
I was surprised by the enthusiasm of the production team when I heard their stories at the production site and received their drawings of the settings for each episode. I am amazed at the enthusiasm of everyone in the production team.
