Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End‘s anime adaptation was among the most anticipated of the Fall 2023 season, principally for its stunning scenery and its first episode delivered, scoring first place with 12.56% of the vote for best first episode out of a total of 5408 votes. A review by Anime Corner’s Ken Pueyo highlighted Frieren’s ‘enchanting visuals and ethereal music.’ Color designer for the anime, Harue Ono’s work was also featured in the well-received No Game No Life and Chihayafuru opening song animations, as well as Spring 2023‘s My Love Story With Yamada-kun at Lv999 which placed 8th in Anime Corner’s top opening song picks that season.

Studio Madhouse’s adaptation of Kanehito Yamada’s Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End manga first aired in September 2023 and has been confirmed for 2 consecutive cours until March 2024. The anime is directed by Keiichiro Saito and written by Tomohiro Suzuki. Evan Call is responsible for the music, who Anime Corner had the opportunity to interview in September. Talking about his work on Frieren as well as My Happy Marriage—for which he also did music composition, Call said, “As for now, I’d be very grateful if you would all watch My Happy Marriage and the upcoming series Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End. I’m very proud of the scores I wrote for these two great shows, and I hope you all will enjoy them too.
