Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End anime has concluded its 2-cour broadcast on Friday teasing a continuation with the last frame containing the message “The Journey to Ende Continues.” Ende is a region located at the northernmost tip of the continent where the Demon King’s Castle is located. It is also the alleged location of Aureole, a place known as heaven and where Frieren and the new party are headed. The X (formerly Twitter) account of Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End‘s manga posted a picture of Frieren with the same message as the caption. Currently, there is no official confirmation that the series is getting a sequel. The story of Frieren continues in chapter 61 of the manga.
The anime’s first season started on 29 September 2023 and returned with its second-cour on 5 January 2024. Studio Madhouse (A Place Further Than The Universe) animated the first season with the direction of Keiichiro Saito (Bocchi the Rock!). Tomohiro Suzuki (One Punch Man) wrote the script, Evan Call (Violet Evergarden) composed the music, and Reiko Nagasawa (takt op. Destiny) designed the characters. Atsumi Tanezaki voices the titular character Frieren, while Kana Ichinose and Chiaki Kobayashi play the roles of Fern and Stark respectively.
Crunchyroll streams the anime and they describe the story as follows:
After the party of heroes defeated the Demon King, they restored peace to the land and returned to lives of solitude. Generations pass, and the elven mage Frieren comes face to face with humanity’s mortality. She takes on a new apprentice and promises to fulfill old friends’ dying wishes. Can an elven mind make peace with the nature of life and death? Frieren embarks on her quest to find out.
