Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End revealed the preview for episode 16 titled “Long-Lived Friends,” on Tuesday. This will be the final episode of the first cour of the series and the second cour will start on January 5. Crunchyroll, Bilibili Global, Muse Asia, and Netflix are streaming the episode which is scheduled to premiere on Friday, December 22. The plot of the 16th episode is as follows:
The new party visited old Fol, a Dwarf warrior whom Frieren had once met when she was adventuring with Himmel and his party. Fol had been protecting a village from demons for a long time and during of their conversation, Frieren recalls Himmel’s words from the past… Later, when they visited a village, they found the footprints of Sein’s best friend who had promised to become an adventurer with him in the past.
Keiichiro Saito (Bocchi the Rock!) is directing the series at studio Madhouse (A Place Further Than The Universe) with Tomohiro Suzuki (One Punch Man) as the scriptwriter, Evan Call (Violet Evergarden) as the music composer, and Reiko Nagasawa (takt op. Destiny) as the character designer. The cast includes Atsumi Tanezaki (Anya Forger from Spy x Family)as the titular character Frieren, Kana Ichinose (Suletta Mercury from Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury) as Fern, Chiaki Kobayashi (Gabimaru from Hell’s Paradise) as Stark, and Yuichi Nakamura (Satoru Gojo from Jujutsu Kaisen). YOASOBI performs the opening theme song “Yuusha” and milet sings the ending theme song titled “Anytime Anywhere.”
Crunchyroll describes the story as follows:
After the party of heroes defeated the Demon King, they restored peace to the land and returned to lives of solitude. Generations pass, and the elven mage Frieren comes face to face with humanity’s mortality. She takes on a new apprentice and promises to fulfill old friends’ dying wishes. Can an elven mind make peace with the nature of life and death? Frieren embarks on her quest to find out.
