Japanese indie rock band Galileo Galilei and American DJ and music producer Porter Robinson have released a new version of the song “Circle Game.” The track, initially released in 2013, was used as the official theme song for the Anohana: The Flower We Saw That Day anime film.
In the video’s description, Galileo Galilei’s lead vocalist and songwriter, Yuki Ozaki, states how he and the rest of the band were long inspired by Porter Robinson’s music, adding that he was always an artist who stood in a beautiful yet somehow nostalgic scenery far away. Ozaki also mentioned how he was surprised that Robinson translated their track’s lyrics well, and even understood the detailed phrases and sounds of “BBHF,” which was Ozaki’s other music alongside other members of Galileo Galilei.
Porter Robinson and Galileo Galilei had watched over each other’s music all this time. Because of this special connection, the session with Porter was instantly filled with the same joy and comfort as when I’m immersed in music with my bandmates, who are also my childhood friends. It was such a magical time.

Our album “Bee and the Whales” released this year, was largely influenced by this experience and contains a lot of what we learned during our session with Porter. I wrote a song called “Father” immediately after the session. Porter’s album “Nurture” was a very strong inspiration.
When I watch the Porter Robinson x Galileo Galilei session footage, every time I mutter to myself, “I wish I could go back to this time again…”.
From the top of each of our paths, we waved and nodded, then looked straight forward again.
I will never forget that moment.
Meanwhile, Porter Robinson tweeted that he found it surreal that he was performing alongside a band, whose songs he had looped many times. It is also worth noting that the new version of “Circle Game” also features a snippet sample of Robinson’s “Something Comforting,” which appears in his second debut album “Nurture.”
Galileo Galilei performed several anime theme songs over the years. They include “Aoi Shiori” as the opening theme song for the anime series Anohana, “Climbing” as the ending theme for the second season of Haikyuu!!, “Arashi no Ato de” for the 2015 anime film Typhoon Noruda, “Koi no Jumyou” as the ending theme for the 2014 anime series Magic Kaito 1412, among others. They previously announced a split in 2016 but reunited as the band Bird Bear Hare and Fish (BBHF) in 2018, and as Galileo Galilei again in 2022.
