Genshin Impact travelers are finally headed to Fontaine, as version 4.0 is upon us. In the special stream dedicated to the upcoming update, mihoyo’s Liu Wei (known as Dawei among the players) introduced the highlights and new additions we can expect.
Version 4.0 of Genshin Impact will introduce three new characters: siblings Lyney, Lynette, and Freminet. Lyney and Lynette are magicians and very popular in Fontaine, while Freminet is a diver, who prefers spending time in the underwater area of Fontaine. The first banner after the update will feature Lyney and Yelan as five-star characters, and Lynette as a four-star. Meanwhile, Freminet will be featured in the second half on Zhongli and Tartaglia’s re-run banners. Free Lynette will also be given to all players that are above AR 25, along with ascension materials needed for her first ascension.
The main Archon Quest will spawn throughout versions 4.0, 4.1 and 4.2. As the trailer teases, the water levels are rising in Fontaine, causing issues for its citizens that are trying to find homes higher up. The poorer class lives in the sewers.
The production team was part of the stream and gave some insight into the challenges they faced when designing Fontaine. As the region is higher up than the other nations, with a higher water level, they had to take into account a logical way to make the transition seamless. Vegetation in the region is similar to Mondstadt as the two are actually close and the inspiration for the art, clothes, and in-game movements came from baroque. Some areas were modeled after the Alps. Fontaine society will feature a special energy mechanic (Arkhe system) which fuels all the mechanical parts needed to run the society. The energy is collected from citizens’ belief in justice system – hence the opera version of the trials that the Hydro Archon, Furina, pushes. There is also a competition for the best duellists in society.
The diving mechanic that Fontaine will feature was first proposed around two years ago and the plan is for all regions to have something unique in terms of gameplay. The underwater area will have puzzles, special areas for exploration, harvestable plants, as well as its own stamina bar for diving. The battle system will also be different – simpler than the overworld, but still fun, as the developers promised.
TCG is getting a spectator mode, in which spectators will be able to see which cards both opponents are playing. Characters will now have special animations when joining the party and the party-join screen will also be updated and even feature changing backgrounds. Watch the full special program:
