Hyouka Anime Celebrates 10th Anniversary

Hyouka anime is celebrating its 10th anniversary with a number of events in Japan. The KyoAni anime originally aired from April 23 to September 17, 2012, and it quickly gained a cult following in the anime community. The anime is based on a novel by Honobu Yonezawa.

The celebratory events for the 10th Hyouka anniversary include a lottery, a museum exhibition (starting in May), as well as a rerun on ABEMA TV. A logo for the anniversary was revealed, along with a visual for the upcoming lottery event:

Hyouka anime was directed by Yasuhiro Takemoto. Takemoto went on to direct Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid and Amagi Brilliant Park before dying in the 2019 Kyoto Animation arson attack alongside Futoshi Nishiya who did the character designs. Nishiya was also the chief animation director on the work and worked on both openings and endings. Shoji Gato did the series composition and also wrote the screenplay for some of the episodes. Kohei Tanaka composed the music.

The main cast included Satomi Sato as Eru Chitanda, Daisuke Sakaguchi as Satoshi Fukube, Ai Kayano as Mayaka Ibara, and Yuichi Nakamura as Hotaro Oreki.

Hyouka novel was originally published in 2001, as the first part of the Kouten-bu Series. A manga adaptation by Taskohna started serialization in 2012 in the Kadokawa’s Shonen Ace magazine. It has not been licensed in North America.

Funimation is streaming the series and describes the plot as:
After disenchanted student Hotaro Oreki joins his school’s Classic Lit Club, he meets Eru Chitanda, a kindhearted and inquisitive girl with boundless curiosity and a knack for getting him caught up in all sorts of trouble.
