KANA-BOON Suspends Band Activities as Takahiro Koizumi, Hayato Koga Leave Group

Popular Japanese rock band KANA-BOON has announced that it will suspend its band activities for the remainder of this year. This follows the band’s recent updates on the departure of its two members, drummer Takahiro Koizumi and guitarist Hayato Koga. Their contracts were terminated by their agency Hip Land Music Corp.

In a recent statement released on the band’s official website, they stated that Koizumi has confirmed recent reports about him are true. Koizumi was dating an underground idol in her 20s who allegedly had an abortion earlier this year, as reported by News Post Seven. The agency goes on to say that Koizumi felt “deep remorse” for his naivety during those times. As a result, the band and its agency have announced that they will cancel Koizumi’s contract.

Hayato Koga’s contract termination was a result of various reports the agency received regarding multiple misbehavior incidents. Despite discussing ways to resolve said issues, the band and the agency have determined that it will be difficult for them to continue their activities. They have also clarified that Koga had also requested to leave the band.

The band will be suspending all activities for the remainder of the year, including live performances and event appearances. Moreover, they said that they will continue to have discussions in order “to find a way to continue activities without embarrassing fans”.

KANA-BOON is a rock band formed in 2008. Current members include Maguro Taniguchi and Masami Endo. They have worked on several popular anime theme songs. They include “Silhouette” (Naruto), “Baton Road” (Boruto), “Star Marker” (My Hero Academia Season 4), “Torch of Liberty” (Fire Force), “Fighter” (Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans), and “Song of the Dead” (Zom 100: Bucket List of the Dead), among others.

This is not the first time KANA-BOON had members leave its lineup. In 2019, its bassist Yuma Meshida left the band, as he was diagnosed with mental illness, and he did not know how many months or years recovery would take.
