The Fable, a manga by Katsuhisa Minami, is getting an anime adaptation. Ryosuke Takahashi, who worked on anime titles such as Armored Trooper VOTOMS, Panzer World Galient, and Blue Comet SPT Layzner, is directing the series. Tezuka Productions (My Home Hero, The Café Terrace and Its Goddesses) is animating it.
Yuya Takashima is doing the series composition and writing the screenplay with Mayumi Morita. Meanwhile, Kyuma Oshita, Saki Hasegawa, and Junichi Hayama are doing the character designs.
Following the live-action film, we have now reached another dream/goal with the animated version, and we are very grateful to everyone involved. From the very beginning of the conception of “The Fable,” I secretly had both a live-action film and an animated feature in mind. Last year, when director Ryosuke Takahashi and his team came to my hometown and I heard them talking passionately about the film, I knew that this anime would be a good one. To the fans of the original, please look forward to the animated version of “The Fable,” which will move just like the manga. I am just as excited as you are and eagerly await its completion.
Statement from author Katsuhisa Minami
The Fable manga was both written and illustrated by Minami, and was serialized in Kodansha’s Weekly Young Magazine from November 2014 to November 2019. A sequel titled The Fable: The Second Contact started in Weekly Young Magazine in July 2021. Kodansha USA has licensed the manga in English:
When you’re the infamous “genius killer” hitman The Fable, many things come easy. Being a normal person, however, isn’t one of them. In fact, being told that he can’t kill anyone for a while may just be the hardest job he’s ever taken…
It received a live-action film adaptation in June 2019, starring Junichi Okada, Fumino Kimura, Mizuki Yamamoto, and Kai Iwonaki, to name a few. The film is available for viewing on Netflix. A sequel film titled The Fable: A Hitman Who Doesn’t Kill premiered on June 18, 2021.
Katsuhisa Minami is also known for his other manga title Naniwa Tomoare, released in 1999, and receiving a re-released in 2007.
