Kohsuke Toriumi is joining the cast of the upcoming original anime AYAKA as Haruaki Kurama. He officially replaced Takahiro Sakurai, who was previously announced to have been removed from the cast.
Some of Toriumi’s well-known roles include Kiyosumi Sengoku in The Prince of Tennis, Koga Gennosuke in Basilisk: Koga Ninpou Chou, Akira Komatsuzawa in Ouran High School Host Club, Szayel Aporro Grantz in Bleach, Kiba Inuzuka in Naruto: Shippuden, Kosuke Wakamatsu in Kuroko’s Basketball, Flashy Flash in One Punch Man, Nozel Silva in Black Clover, and Bacillus Cereus in Cells At Work.
His most recent roles include Shirono Mamoru in The Rising of the Shield Hero, Kiyoomi Sakusa in Haikyu!! To The Top, Ydol Anzeo in The Misfit of Demon King Academy, Edward IV of York in Requiem of the Rose King, and Galm in The Aristocrat’s Otherworldly Adventure: Serving Gods Who Go Too Far. He will also play Lorenzo M. Salvatore in the upcoming original racing anime Highspeed Etoile.
Other cast members of the AYAKA anime include Yuto Uemura (Bungo Stray Dogs, The Ancient Magus Bride, Darling in the Franxx) as Yukito Yanagi, Takuma Terashima (Bleach, Durarara!!, Wotakoi: Love is Hard of Otaku) as Jingi, and Yuichiro Umehara (Black Clover, Goblin Slayer) as Aka Ibuki. A character trailer featuring Jingi and Yukito was recently revealed .
The AYAKA anime will be animated by Studio Blanc, under the direction of Nobuyoshi Nagayama. GoRa is responsible for the series composition, while Misaki Kaneko is creating the character designs based on the original by Redjuice. Kana Shibue is responsible for the music, while Ryo Tanaka is responsible for the sound direction.
Crunchyroll announced that it will be streaming the anime outside of Japan. The streaming platform describes the plot as:
The story follows Yukito Yanagi, an orphan who one day encounters an eccentric disciple of his father’s. The strange man takes him to his birthplace on Ayakajima, made up of seven islands where mysterious beings called “Mitama” and dragons are rumored to reside. There, Yukito meets his father’s two other disciples, who protect the harmony of Ayakajima… which soon threatens to collapse.
